It's a Wonderful World
This month of April really kicked off with many trips. Bob traveled TDY to Greece for a few weeks. Our family really missed having the extra TLC in our home. Although everything get's accomplished (school & after school adventures), I personally feel like a car chugging on 3 wheels. It makes it down the road - but we sure miss that 4th wheel.
The kids started swim lessons at the JFC-Brunssum, Netherlands pool. I'm told the Dutch take kids swim lessons very seriously and even follow a certification program due to all the canals in Holland. After being on the wait-list for 6 months, I was excited for Tyler and Avery to learn proper strokes. Tyler already had swim lessons in school but this class actually seems to encourage swimming efficiently.
Boy Scouts continued with a pinewood derby race and regular meetings. Later this month, we'll travel to Normandy to celebrate the Boy Scouts of America Annual Camp-Out and Promotion Ceremony. We haven't been to the far west region of France, so I'm triple excited for the trip.
The Girl Scouts celebrated Global Thinking Day. It was a really sweet day held at the GK chapel. Having the chapel used for a community event always makes my heart happy. Maybe it's growing up in a church filled with laughing children that results in a reminiscent emotions. The girls made flower bombs (genius idea - created with newspapers and seeds - toss and planted), painted global art, enjoyed flower dirt pudding cups, and completed many team building activities outside. Spring is in the air -- the sunny weather really helped the Girl Scouts bloom during Global Thinking Day.
AFNorth International School kicked off spring break. Our family took advantage of the kids being out of school and took a joyful journey to Gran Canaria, Spain and Normandy, France. Our bodies soaked up Vitamin D while our hearts soaked up family and friend adventures. It was truly a welcomed respite from our daily responsibilities.
What else happened....oh, Tyler turned 9! This little fella stole my heart since day 1. A little about our 9 year old - he's very gentle hearted and aspires to become an astronaut. Every day, Tyler teaches me something new. Life is grand with Tyler in my world. Tyler had a cake at the Canary Islands hotel and singing/cake on his real birthday (today) at home too. Surely, one cannot have too much cake. His cake choice was chocolate w/ cream cheese frosting and dinner choice was enchiladas (although at first he wanted beef wellington).

Everyone said to not miss seeing the French Baroque architecture shown at the Palace of Versailles - they were right!
A is for French abby & Avery
Scouting a bunker - overlooking Omaha Beach, Normandy, France
Standing outside a chapel used as a hospital in WWII. Such amazing history on that step.
