Getting Amped about this Spring/Summer

Image
It's a rough humorous that spring break for the kids starts on Monday because yesterday we had ground covered in snow. This morning I had a windshield covered in ice. Needless to say, I'm really hoping the warm weather arrives after this cold binge. Tyler starts t-ball on Saturday...we couldn't be anymore excited! This weekend is filled with t-ball practice, an Easter egg hunt on Andrews AFB, Easter church service (fun!) and Easter dinner with our own little egg hunt! It should r a blast! I'm still recovering from my Jones fracture...Saturday is my last day wearing the boot. I'm free to run again! Yeah. I've still been swimming on the masters team, riding the stationary bike, elliptical and weights...so, hopefully I won't be too out of condition. The Nike Women's half marathon is only a few weeks away!

Full Marathon...check!

Well, today is Monday and it officially hit me.  On Saturday, I ran my first full marathon.  Here's a mile by mile recap: Mile 1-5:  Wow, that was fast.  My pace feels great, around 9:10.  The course is beautiful going over the Arlington Bridge with the statues looking over our race.  There are a ton of 1/2 marathon racers, which scares me just a tad. Mile 5-10:  One big hill around mile 6...the rest was uneventful.  I'm in awe over the crowd support.  I've seen several hugs and kisses from the sidelines to the runners.  I cry thinking about how amazing it is to have loved ones supporting the personal joy of running.  I wonder why I never think I deserve to have true uncomplicated joy...hmmm...who knows. Mile 10-13.1:  The big signs...half marathon to the left....marathoners to the right.  I stay strong to the right.  In order to keep from stressing about the distance, I told myself all along, the first 13.1 miles...

Well, 16 weeks of training and it's officially get off your feet and rest day! It's really odd not running or going to the gym. All the training has really instilled the workout routine into my day. I had a great carb loading dinner with the girls last night. I'm truly blessed with great friends. I couldn't imagine this journey with my gals! My nerves are officially in overload mode...but I'm trying to focus on the positive finish line. DC Rock N Roll Marathon, here I come, ready or not! Avery Paige and I... another day of training with my little hiking buddy!
